Mario Sports Superstars for Nintendo 3ds was released on March 24th 2017 and it’s retail value is $39.99. It is the newest 3ds game in the sports series, where the whole cast of Super Mario brother characters compete against each other in different sports. In this version of the game you will be able to play Soccer, Tennis, Baseball, Golf and now also Horse racing. After a short training on the sport of your liking, you get to choose what you want to do. Each of these sports have the option to play in tournaments or multiplayer or just an exhibition game. A player can play alone or with a friend online or they can play with anyone else in the world. While playing you accumulate coins that you use to buy cards for your collection. Completing your collection gives this game a lot of replay value.
I had the experience to play this game with my two children and during our playthrough of each game I found myself thinking that the games were quite easy to start with, but found out the higher up you get in the tournaments the harder your opponents get. Helping you along the way are special moves that you earn that when unleashed can give you an upper hand against your opponent. Of the five sports available, Tennis was my most favorite one. Less chaos on the screen let me concentrate more on my opponent and let me make better choices on how to counter them. I would say my least favorite would have to be Horse racing. The only issue I had with it is you had to bond with your horse before you could actually ride it, which took up a tremendous amount of time. Overall this game showed me that Mario and family can bring a unique spin to sports, I loved it and my children most definitely fell in love with it. I’m excited to see where Nintendo will take the franchise from here.
